Annual Sustainability and Fashion for a Greener Future Conference
The Fashion Design Department at the Faculty of Arts and Design at October University for Modern Sciences and Arts (MSA) proudly hosted its annual conference, titled “Sustainability and Fashion for a Greener Future.” This event brought together industry leaders, researchers, and enthusiastic students to discuss the critical intersection of sustainability and fashion, aiming to inspire positive change within the industry.
The Dean of the Faculty, Professor Dr. Tarek Saleh, welcomed the guests and emphasized the importance of holding annual conferences for the college’s various programs. He highlighted the benefits of industry and educational experts participating and engaging with contemporary developments. He also pointed out that achieving sustainability can be accomplished through various means, including recycling, multiple uses, design flexibility, and the use of environmentally friendly materials and treatments. The conference featured a remarkable lineup of esteemed guest speakers who shared their insights and experiences on sustainable practices in fashion:
– Dr. Khalid Ezzedine Mahmoud – Chairman of Hijabi Qatari and Indian Company: Presented innovative samples demonstrating sustainability in fashion, emphasizing the importance of eco-friendly materials and practices in the industry.
– Dr. Essam Alshoury – Research, Development, and Training Advisor at the Federation of Egyptian Industries: Delivered a presentation on the current state of the fashion industry, focusing on sustainable development and the importance of integrating eco-friendly practices at all levels.
– Associate Professor Dr. Jehan Trabelsi Kraiem- Director of the Fashion and Textile Design Department at the Higher Institute of Fashion, University of Monastir, Tunisia: Presented the results of a pioneering experiment she conducted, highlighting innovative approaches in sustainable fashion design.
The conference also highlighted contributions from faculty members at MSA University:
– Dr. Soha Rafiq, a design lecturer in the Fashion Design Department at MSA University, shared her insights on sustainable design methodologies.
